Day 013/365

What’s the story behind the numbered days? Within these 365 days, I aim to establish Miami as a global center for the AI world with the help of dedicated and mission-driven individuals from Miami. The goal is to make it a hotter spot for AI than Silicon Valley. Each day is a step in my journey, bringing me one step closer to this mission. This is a bold claim. As Margaret Mead said: “Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed individuals can change the world. In fact, it’s the only thing that ever has.” We are creating that future for Miami.
Wait! We also have plans for other cities. Within these 365 days, we are creating global coalitions around a Global Pause on Artificial General Intelligence hashtag#GPAGI and also expanding the benefits of AI to the rest of the world.

Last night, Sara and I attended Adnaan’s cognitive hackathon along with other Miami AI Club members, Dynamo, Libia, and Mislav. The goal of the hackathon was to remove the boundaries of perception through a few exercises, enabling us to see things in a different way and be more creative. This was the second event by Adnaan, supported by Bianca Diosdado and Paul-Emile Desrosiers. Such events, aimed at expanding our human intelligence by challenging our preconceived notions, are rare and I encourage everyone to get involved. Bianca and Paul are making significant humanitarian efforts around the world in an efficient way.

During the day, I also had a meeting with Kirk Pattinson, the innovation leader of Valley Bank through Venky, and learned more about the bank’s effort to become technology-first. This is a challenge for most banks with legacy systems on how to integrate AI into a world that is halfway through its digitalization journey.

I met Eduardo Siman, a Miami native who is leveraging AI to combat climate change. He is going to demo his two products: one is a computer vision-based video generating algorithm that takes a picture of a hurricane and generates a prediction video path of the hurricane. The other one uses LLMs to gain real-time knowledge of weather patterns. Both will be demonstrated at a Climate and AI event we will announce for May. I also met Sam Pinson, a Miami-native lawyer specialized in healthcare AI, working on issues such as data privacy laws related to biosensors and healthcare data.

One day and a dozen steps closer to the mission.
